As Tim mentioned, St. Louis will be one of the sites for the first round competition. This competition is really good for not only letting AHA know that we can host a large competition (and hopefully a conference), but it also lets brewers know that St. Louis is a great place to send beers for other competitions. I believe that it will help COP, Microfest, and HHHC draw more attention and entries.

Each first round site will get up to 750 entries, and so we are going to need all the judging and stewarding help that we can get. We are asking that judges and stewards register through the AHA site. That way, we have an accurate count of judges, and know their likes and dislikes, so that we can better assign judges to flights.

The judge registration site is now open, and is located at https://brewingcompetition.com/index.php?section=register&go=judge.

Our judging schedule is as follows. All judging will be at O'Fallon Brewery in Maryland Heights:

Sunday, March 13, 1:00, Sorting

Monday, March 14, 6:30, Judging
Wednesday, March 16, 6:60, Judging
Friday, March 18, 6:30, Judging
Saturday, March 19, 9:00, Judging
Saturday, March 19, 1:00, Judging
Sunday, March 20, 9:00, Possibly judging (depending on need)

To thank judges and stewards for all their help, we are working on a special event for the evening of Saturday, March 19. As we firm up plans for that, details will be posted.

Thanks!

Bump.

If you can possibly help us out with judging or stewarding for this competition, please visit the judge registration site at https://brewingcompetition.com/index.php. It looks like St. Louis has about 680 entries this year, which will work out to about 78 flights. We really need all the help we can get.

Answers to a few questions we've gotten:

- We originally planned a judging session for Tuesday, March 15. Unfortunately, this conflicts with a GBS meeting on that date. We've moved the judging session to Monday, March 14.

- For those entering beers into the competition, the web site originally listed as O'Fallon as a drop-off location. That is actually incorrect. St. Louis Wine and Beermaking is the main St. Louis drop off location.

- We will be doing sorting on Sunday, March 13, at 1:00 at O'Fallon. If you want, you can drop off your entry to us then. We will be in the back where the GBS meetings are. And since you're there, if you want to enjoy a beer with us and help us sort, we'd love to have the extra help!

Thanks, and hope to see you there!

Is it just me or is anyone else having trouble figuring out what they are judging? It appears that AHA is using a different numbering schema than the 2015/2016 BJCP.

In NHC, they group several BJCP categories into one category for judging. The first number listed is the NHC category it will be judged in. For example, they receive so many American IPAs that those are put into one judging category (category 16), while other IPAs (English, double, specialty) are in category 17.

When they came up with the 2016 guidelines, they didn't really group the sub-categories by how well they could be judged against each other. So judging categories are almost always going to consist of styles of several different BJCP categories.
