Next Steps on the website

Postby jkeeton » Sun Feb 26, 2012 6:53 pm

Since the website has been moved to a new hosting partner (we can actually update the static site) and the forums are working, we are wanting to move to create a new non-forum site.

We are wanting to use a content management system(CMS) to edit the data, so that whomever does it doesn't have to know html. If you can run Microsoft Word, the cms's won't be to hard to run.

We need someone or somebodies that are artistic and can come up with some graphics and schtuff to make it look pretty. Again, the cms's make it so that applying a theme over the site easy. Can anyone want to assist in that?

We had started using Joomla. I may be in the minority here, but I wasn't very impressed with it. It was very difficult to define the look and feel for the website using it.

Can we start with something simple, like updating the logo in the top left corner to the newer one?

I know...stirring the pot again. :)

Doesn't look like it on here...it still looks like the logo from the 80's. Pixellated and grainy...

...and I mean the one IN the forums, not the one on the front page...

Yeah, I was able to update the one on the front page, but I didn't do the one on the forum. Will hopefully get to it soon.

Not sure if the color scheme on the logo and the new site work together. Maybe you should play with some alternative logos, see what looks best.

What's that sound I hear? Is that the sound of someone volunteering to help? :D

Hey guys - When I post a picture from Photobucket, larger pictures should be getting resized instead of being chopped off on the right side.

Can anything be done to fix this?

Thanks and keep up the fantastic work!
Paul

Yes, they can just make it so they don't show up! At least, that is how they are on my screen...pictures posted since the switch don't seem to be appearing. :?:

So you don't see the picture in his post above? That might be something on your end, I can see it fine on my computers (Chrome, IE 8, IE 9).

The image resizing was probably being done by a mod on the old system, since that's not built in to PHPbb. There are several options, ReIMG Resizer is the first one that comes up in Google that isn't in Beta and seems to be kept up to date. It would be up to the admins to implement it.

Can you post a link to a screen grab on flickr or photobucket or something? Everything looks ok in ff10.

I didn't see any mods installed on the old board; so things should be behaving similar.
